She chose to go a different direction. Drones, a relatively new part of the US army, are fast becoming an important part military operations. The US military is developing new drones to perform a wide range of tasks.

Commercial drones for the US military are rapidly becoming commonplace, and there are numerous reasons why. This technology is rapidly improving and can be used in a multitude of ways. Drones are increasingly complex and cost-effective, and can be used for everything from military surveillance to delivery of parcels and packages. Drones are becoming cheaper and more accessible. Many start-ups are creating new models and technologies that will benefit both the military sector and civilians.

RQ-4 ALE

The US Marine Corps has been testing the capabilities of RQ-4 HALE drones to download data. This capability was demonstrated during a recent North Carolina field exercise. The 2nd Intelligence Battalion of the II Marine Expeditionary Force managed to overcome a hardware failure to collect information in a communications-denied environment. The RQ-4 is a proven weapon in drone combat and has a long track record of success for the US military.

Northrop Grumman X-47B

US Navy recently spent $1.8 billion to create the first stealth UAV. These unmanned aerial vehicles can perform autonomous wave-off and multiple landings. The US Navy had hoped to use these drones for maritime surveillance and counter-terrorism missions, but the X-47B proved to be too expensive. It was scrapped instead. Today, the US military is developing new UAVs, including drones that could replace piloted aircraft.

RQ-7 Shadow

US military is currently testing RQ-7 Shadow UAVs for use in the war on terror. This system was created to monitor a 4-kilometer-wide area of ground at a distance of 3000 meters, or 12 hundred feet. The US Army proposes a Shadow 152A upgrade, which will include Soldier Radio Waveform technology. The drone's sensors aren't able to work in rain and clouds.

How to Fly Drones with Beginners

A drone is a remotely-controlled aircraft that is used for aerial photography and surveillance. Drone technology has been around since World War II. DJI's Phantom series quadcopters were first commercially available in 2010. From beginner-friendly drones such as Parrot AR Drone 2.0 through professional-grade multirotor craft like DJI Mavic Pro, many types have been available.

There are many methods to fly a Drone, including

  1. Remote control - This method uses a control device attached to your hand, which enables you to steer the drone through its flight path. There are two main types: Joysticks (like a radio), and On/Off switches (like an alarm clock).
  2. Manual Control - Using a smartphone app, this method allows users to remotely operate the drone via GPS coordinates. The app will provide instructions and help you to locate the drone.
  3. Autonomous Flight – This is when the drone handles all the piloting tasks. It basically flies autonomously without any human intervention. A drone must have a builtin camera and sensors capable to capture images and other data.
  4. Triggered Flight - This method is similar to manual control, except the pilot manually sets up a preprogrammed route, and the drone follows that route until it reaches the endpoint. The drone automatically lands once the route has been completed and returns to the base.
  5. Landing Gear – A few drones come with landing gear. This allows them land safely in the event of losing power or running out of battery.
  6. Goggles - Pilots may wear goggles to shield themselves from flying debris.
